"There is a crack in everything, that's how the light gets in."
Leonard Cohen
At times life reaches a point where something no longer holds together: anxiety becomes persistent, relationships feel strained, creativity dries up, or a quiet unease begins to insist. For some, this is related to work and performance; for others, to intimacy, identity, or the tension of living between languages and cultures.
Psychoanalysis offers a space to speak about what troubles you without pressure to fit into a diagnosis or a ready-made explanation. It is a place to follow what emerges in your own words, and to discover what is truly at stake for you.
"A psychoanalysis consists in speaking freely, in not hushing the ideas that go through your head.
Little by little, from within your own words, another meaning forms and surprises you,
then falls apart, taking the pain with it.
Usually, you discover just how conditioned you have been by apparently minute elements
encountered in hazardous circumstances: things from childhood, meetings, certain words said to you,
and we keep coming back to them until the malevolent charge of these elements softens."
Jacques-Alain Miller

PSYCHOANALYSIS AND PSYCHOTHERAPY IN LJUBLJANA
Who May Benefit from Psychoanalysis
I work with adults who are experiencing a range of difficulties:
• Anxiety, stress, fear, panic, or inner conflict
• Depression, a loss of direction, or a sense of emptiness
• Difficulties in relationships, intimacy, sexuality, parenthood, or family life
• Questions of identity, belonging, gender, and self-understanding
• Creative blocks, performance anxiety, stage fright, or burnout
• The experience of living between cultures, countries, and languages — whether as an expat, a Third Culture Kid (TCK), a multilingual person, or someone navigating cultural transition or culture shock
You do not need a diagnosis or a perfectly clear reason to begin. It is enough that something in your life, your body, your work, or your relationships is causing distress or raising questions you would like to explore.
An analytic process can bring relief from symptoms, improve quality of life, and allow you to make choices with greater freedom, less burdened by the weight of the past.
Languages, Location and Practical Information
I offer psychoanalysis and psychotherapy in English, Italian, and Spanish, in person in Ljubljana, as well as online for those living elsewhere in Slovenia or abroad.
Session frequency and timing
Sessions are typically held between once and three times per week, depending on what we agree is suitable for your situation.
The duration of each session is variable and follows the logic of the treatment rather than the clock. In Lacanian psychoanalysis, time is measured by moments of insight, articulation, or emotional emergence. A session may end when something is articulated that opens a new understanding or allows the unconscious to continue working. This ensures the analytic work respects the rhythm of your speech and your experience.
Likewise, there is no fixed duration for an analysis—each path follows its own rhythm and is guided by your experience and desire, not by an external program.
Fees and practical arrangements are discussed during the initial consultation.
How I Work
My practice is oriented by Lacanian psychoanalysis. Rather than seeking to silence symptoms quickly, I listen to what they may be saying in your life. What troubles you is not dismissed as meaningless, but as something that carries a message, even if it is difficult to grasp at first.
In sessions, you are invited to speak freely, without censoring yourself or trying to fit your experience into a fixed narrative. Hesitations, contradictions, memories, dreams, and unexpected associations are welcome.
Over time, new meanings emerge from your own words, and your relation to anxiety, loss, repetition, or conflict may shift from within—not through advice or techniques, but through your own experience.
Beginning Psychoanalysis
If you are considering starting psychoanalysis in Ljubljana or online therapy, you are welcome to get in touch for an initial consultation. In this first meeting, you can speak about what brings you, and we can see together whether this way of working is suitable for you.

Training and Orientation
I completed my analytic training at the Escuela Lacaniana de Psicoanálisis in Madrid, where I obtained the Certificate of Clinical Studies with a dissertation on the evolution of the concept of the object a in Lacan’s teaching.
I remain actively involved in the contemporary Lacanian field through participation in the New Lacanian School (NLS) and the World Association of Psychoanalysis (AMP-WAP). I am a member of Espace Jeunesse Vienna and serve as Delegate of the Bureau of the NLS Vienna Initiative.
Some of my theoretical writings have been published in the journal Punto de Fuga.
Working with Creative Professionals and Expats
In parallel with my psychoanalytic practice, I maintain an international performing career as a musician. I am a member of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center in New York and was principal clarinetist of Ensemble MidtVest in Denmark for fourteen years, and have recorded more than twenty-five albums.
I founded and direct Schackenborg Musikfest, a summer festival at Schackenborg Castle in Denmark, and previously led KantorAtelier in Florence, a cultural association dedicated to the encounter between music, theatre, and psyche.
This dual experience in music and psychoanalysis informs my work in relation to creativity, performance, vulnerability, discipline, and the body on stage. For clients for whom creativity is central to life, the analytic setting can resonate in a particularly meaningful way.
As a long-time multilingual expat, I am also sensitive to the difficulties faced by TCKs, expats, and multilingual individuals navigating identity, belonging, and cultural transitions.
Teaching and Public Engagement
Alongside clinical work, I teach Theory and Clinic of Lacanian Psychoanalysis and serve on the Scientific Committee of OMANUT in Rome, a three-year school of professional art counseling.
I give masterclasses and lectures at institutions including the Juilliard School, Manhattan School of Music, Royal Danish Academy, State University of New York, and Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, on themes such as text interpretation and the body on stage — questions central both to the performing arts and to psychoanalytic work.
More about moving and emigrating
Relocation is often described as a fresh start. It is, rather, a confrontation:: with what you wanted, what you avoided, and what keeps returning, regardless of address.
In this interview for Live in Slovenia, I discuss how psychoanalysis provides a privileged space to encounter the enigmatic impasses of desire — revealing that we are never entirely at home within ourselves:
